hey the specials don't have to be your favorite band just because you're on there site, this site is about love for any 2-tone band. oviously the specials is the best, i meen they did creat this hole 2-tone stuff, and i am pretty sure that is why they are the most popular band in ska history.

Being diplomatic as I am (SBW/SK Rolling Eyes ) I have to say, I think The Bodysnatchers were diabolical, however, each of the other bands were fan-fookin-tastic. They were all brilliant in a unique way and I personally think it's a little unfair to compare them, as they all brought something different into the musical arena.

The fact that Madness have had longevity gives them a certain edge that I am sure if The Specials had continued they would never have had (In The Studio is proof enough of that). Bad Manners singles were fantastic good old dance music. The Beat had a totally unique sound and one that I know from personal experience is hard to replicate. I love 'em all but if I have to be drawn into it (no you don't I hear you cry!) then The Specials for the originality, the aggression, the politics, the image, the music and oh yeah, they were from God's own city. Reason enough in itself. Laughing

Back to LPs

    The Specials
    One Step Beyond
    Too Much Pressure

If I had a 6 CD changer in me car, I'd have 2 copies of each.

those are all really really good points cos are all unique and that is another reason why i love 2-tone. and also reasons why like the specials too (for the originality, the aggression, the politics, the image, and the music) Very Happy

Most played 'back in the day'...

Too Much Too Young EP
The Specials
Too Much Pressure
Celebrate The Bullet
I Just Can't Stop It
One Step Beyond
The Height Of Bad Manners
This Are Two Tone
Wh'appen?
More Specials
Complete Madness

...pretty much covered it for me. For "the closest I got to the REAL thing", the first title won, hands down.......that record IS a 'Classic' - no argument.

Have to disagree with you about The Bodysnatchers. Lets Do Rocksteady is a great single and Easy Life (along with Rico's Sea Cruise) is the forgotten gem which was released on the label. It's a shame that they split up when they did because it would have been great to hear an album from them. They certainly did not deserve novelty tag which people somehow tried to attach to them, this is the band which wrote The Boiler after all. I was lucky enough to catch them live way back in the day and they certainly were a great band live. They had a great energy and got the crowd moving. All those mini skirts didn't do any harm either. I think The Bodysnatchers were a very very under rated band, and as Trojan mentioned,an album from them who have been superb. They may have been on the amateur side and in time they would have been highly polished, but they looked good(ooh Miss SJ-that look!)they had their own distinctive sound, and song writing was coming on in leaps when they disbanded. The Boiler is testament to this. Cool
