I'm 'born again' and it's great.
Those who've championed ska and sites like this through the quieter/dark times have my utmost respect.
Agree with everything Nanker said in that last post. Went to loads of gigs 30 odd years ago, drifted around a bit etc in the meantime, and now found my old passions again too. That aint 'plastic' Question

It was a time after the seventies.

People wore shit clothes and had poor taste in music.

Think my tastes are closer to those in their 80's than those in The 80's Wink

I also had Oscar Goldman and his Blow up briefcase...... Cool Laughing

...Enjoyed reading these posts,,,and let me state that I have the upmost respect for the mainstay who have kept the "Scene" going particularly through the 90s early 00s( give or take the Mini revivals).....

...what Im struggling to understand is that a "Scene" that has predominantly promoted one love and equality to the human spirit should sneer( all be it in a petty way) on groups of equals for having a good time and enjoying the current nostalgic wave, God knows we all need it in this current climate and so what if they wear a Fred Perry or not,,, Imo its all good...

For the record I've never noticed anyone walking about at any gig large or small pretending to be the Bertie Big Bollocks of Ska!!! Laughing maybe I'm not looking hard enough,,,

Btw... the last "good" Who concert I was at just months before the great John Entwiste passed away the crowd were chanting "We are the Mods"!!! when Daltry quipped back "We're too old to be Mods just enjoy the music,,...... Laughing

i was a proper punk (a bit young) then a proper rudeboy saw the specials several times in 79- then i forgot all about them, i'm not ashamed, i was living a life! now i dress up as i did when i was 14 when i sing in my band but wear normal more middle aged clothes the rest of the time,

i thought about dressing as a rudeboy for last years gigs but then decided everyone would laugh! Laughing
so yes I'm plastic!

i have played gigs for unreconstructed punk audiences- i dont like it! they are often humourless snobs.

Once we supported sex pistols experience and felt their tribute band audience was sneering at us (the only bloke who liked it was a former bassist in punk era adam and the ants who said we were much more like the original spirit of the pistols than them!.)

I like it much more playing to people who used to put on a safety pin when their mum wasn't looking and now bring their kids along cos their wife has gone to the pictures! At our first gig we were going down quite well and there was an old hippy aged about 60 in the corner shouting 'it'll never catch on'. It was really funny.
