Madness Vs......erm, no-one

....they've managed to remain just about on the right side of grown up.....and lo and behold....make good new music.

frankly, I don't care who's doing what so long as there is some quality control.

Spot on, mate! Personally, I don't think Neol's band should be called The Selecter. I know he has as much right, if not more, than Pauline to use the name but without Pauline or Gaps it's just a tribute band to me. It makes a hell of a difference when a band has only one or two original members and they're not the singer.

Neol's band are very good indeed but I'd like them better if they weren't called The Selecter. I know that sounds fickle but it's true. I'd have more respect for them if they weren't using the name. And what's with that awful logo Confused Laughing ........

Liam, it could be argued Neol Davies is the only original member

NeolDavies has, right or wrong, good or bad, tried to resurrect his own project, the selecter. He is intent on releasing new material- right step in right direction. He has every right to give it a go.

Neol would have loved nothing more than for the original line-up to celebrated the 30th anniversary together last year. As not everyone was willing to do this, then he understandably looked to do something completely different.

The name is his and so he has every right to use it, if only to draw people in to hear his new material. And after all, he did write ALL of the Selecter's hits so he, more than anyone, has the right to perform them in public.

I am very keen to see his band soon, not to compare them with Pauline's but simply to see a British ska legend performing his songs live.

And by the way, I love to watch Pauline and Gaps too, and I will remain hopeful that at some point they will all reform if only for a single show.....

I understand in the meantime Neol will making an impromptu appearance shortly on home soil......... Wink

As stated, I'm happy for all of them to be out there making music, playing live and doing something good and original.

The feuds and debates aint worth a lot then because the music will speak for itself.

Yes, he does, and good luck to him.

I'd still like to see him get David McAlmont on stage to a do a few of the oldies.

i must admit i have a slight problem with musicians trading on past glorys, especially if its nothing more than a gloryfied tribute act to themselves from the past.
but thats the business, and at the end of the day
the selecter name sells tickets..
but im happy he is doing new stuff, which is important, at least he isnt living in the past and is trying to do something fresh . good luck to him.
i hope the specials do the same.....
