Post subject: RIP Lloyd Knibbs- legendary Skatalites drummer Reply with quote

Lloyd Knibbs passed away in his sleep last night after returning to Jamaica from America on Wednesday. It feels like the end of an era. The Selecter shared a stage many times with The Skatalites, all over the world during the past 30 years and Lloyd was one of the kindest men that I have ever been fortunate enough to know. We salute you Sir. The most stylish drummer that I have ever seen. RIP.

Sad news indeed. The influence of Lloyd Knibbs, Tommy McCook, Don Drummond and all of those that have played with The Skatalites and are no longer with us will live on. They were part of something very special and The Skatalites are rightly recognised as THE Jamaican group.

John Bradbury of The Specials sent this special comment to us today-

"I am saddened by the news of Lloyd`s death, he was a major influence on me as he was on so many others, his legacy will continue to influence future generations of drummers, one could leave no greater mark than that. I also lost a dear friend and associate this week, Big George Webley, one of the greatest all round talents I have ever had the honour to know. George played bass guitar for the my JB`s Allstars project. May they both rest in peace..."

Top words Brad.
