Roddy literally spat and snarled his way through Concrete Jungle in a touching duet with Mr Hall.

Made me laugh when Lynval did his 'this band will carry on.....' speech and Roddy piped up with yeah

'Yeah, we're gonna get Sid James in, Carry on Specials!'

Much better set list order than Brighton.

Brixton crowd was having it large as usual!

Still feel the band lacked some of their (2009) earlier energy and presence, although Roddy played his bollocks off and Nev was in good health last night (which was really good to see after having watch him hobble around at Brighton). Even Horace got excitable at one point! Lynval was as enthusiastic as ever, but not as mobile (i.e not legging it about!)

Wasn't keen on some of Terry snide asides....he resigned to simply cutting as opposed to clever wit to woo.

Woulda been nice to see Rhoda up there for Pearls Cafe, she only lives round the corner and I bumped into her at the tube. She was out buying milk!

I could be wrong but I seem to recall Roddy doing stuff like this before at the end of the last tour, but this time Terry seems out to deliberately wind him up...

Kind of a sad undercurrent to a so far brilliant tour...

Good pre party. I thought the live band were a little cheeky though doing Specials covers??

very much enjoyed the set. Good crowd atmosphere as per usual for Brixton. I always like the little area down the front in front of the bar.

not surprising there was a bit of banter with Roddy. Odds on he won't do it again. Last time on Thursday?

See you there - JP

Concrete Jungle was great last night, Roddy came across louder than Terry - don't know if that was an arranged tech thing - but whatever, it really worked with them both singing it together.

Blimey ..... I am still aching from last night .... Hopefully I will be fully recovered for Thursday !!!

I positioned myself about 4 people from the front, dead centre of the stage. The 'mosh pit' was pretty mad last night and I am pretty sore and bruised today Smile

Was very close to the the skinhead with the bare chest and tattoos who was very exhuberant to say the least. When Nev was telling someone to behave themselves .... he was the person it was aimed at. The bloke was a bit mad initially but seemed to tone it down when the bouncers seemed to have their eye on him.

Roddy did seem to have the hump ... and I know the possible reasons have been well documented on here, so will not dwell on that.

Someone critisized Terry and his quips. Terry is pure gold in my opinion and the slating of John Terry is always totally appreciated and deserved.

Can't wait to take part in all festivities on Thursday ... including the pre-gig.

C.

Hi All.
May be I will get a bit shot down in flames as this is a Specials fan forum..... but although I enjoyed the gig, I felt the sound quality / the acoustics were simply awful.

We were standing bang in the centre of the hall, just behind the 1st Crash Barrier.
from our great view-point we could not hear a single word the band members spoke, and when the bass guitar played it drowned out everything!

I am not an out-and-out die hard like most on this forum, so not being to loads of Specials gigs, but just felt a bit disappointed.

I last saw the Specials at Hammersmith a couple of years ago, and had the night of my life. I was looking for more the same on Monday but it was all a bit of a let-down.

It maybe where we were stood, but I could hear people in the Mosh-pit laughing at the banter on stage, but everyone in our section had no idea what was being said.

Shame really!!

Cheers for reading
Mark

I thought it was very touching when Terry dedicated Pearl's Cafe to the legendary Amy Turtle. I remember her well from the 1970s. She is an often overlooked former talent who deserves recognition and respect..
Here's a clip so you can see for yourselves what a rare acting gift she possessed.

Ska Saint, someone else said almost your exact words to me the other night....was stood in similar place to you to.

I was stood front right and heard everything fine and the sound was great.

Must be a sound dip in the venue somewhere, or just poor mixing.

I think ska saint was in 'line of sight' of the bass amp cabinets - I dont know much about the sonic tech bits about it but I do know when Im standing in front of my bass players amp I can barely hear the drummer or my own guitar. A foot either side and everythings normal again...
