Do any of you know which Plaistow Ian is referring to in the song, I'm guessing It's the one below but I could be wrong? Smile

Yes, I think it's the one in Newham. There's a book about his lyrics probably out of print now.

Most of the songs on that album mention are part of South London I know well - which is where Ian used to live. The song Blockheads was inspired by having to listen to drunks come out of a pub near the Oval cricket ground.

Blimey, never occurred to me that it was anything other than THE Plaistow (the one in Newham) - in fact didn't even know there was another Plaistow. There's references in the song to Mile End and Becontree (either side of THE Plaistow) so I'm sure it is.

Bromley-By-Bow is just down the road from THE Plaistow to add a bit of confusion.

I know he wasn't born over this side but Ian is an East London/Essex boy.

Thanks for all your help people, Ian Dury must have been the only musical artist to write about Plaistow? Smile
