And it's only now that he realises that UB40 have released a dodgy album? That ship sailed many years ago, Astro!!!!

In a statement the group said: "UB40 are shocked and saddened by not only Astro's decision to quit the band, but also his refusal to honour his touring commitments. We have several tours booked in the coming months, including our biggest UK tour for three years, and he has not only let us down but also our fans.

"While we are naturally disappointed that Astro will not be with us at these shows, UB40 will continue and are looking forward to a positive 2014."

The show must go on. Rolling Eyes

I'm very happy for Astro and I wish him all the best in the future, I hope he records something new on his own like he should have done many years ago, I've always liked his Toasting and stage presence Smile

Do people still take any interest in UB40? I lost interest around 1980. I just can't really see what the point of them is. They were on the radio the other day on one of those guess the year things. It just reminded me how bloody awful they were.

I still rate Signing off as one of the finest reggae albums ever made, but they have been bland for decades now. Sad

I think it would be good if Terry Hall reformed the Fun Boy 3 with Astro replacing both Nev & Lynval.

Ali Campbell apears to be doing ok on his own.

I don't know what the rest of UB40 could do though....

UB40 went a bit Pete Tong in the mid 80s but I thought in the early 90s they got something back.... shoulda stuck to originals though.

Tribute acts and reformed bands are all a bit like Alzheimer's to me.

The 'soap opera' continues...

http://www.reggaeville.com/nc/artist-details/artist/ub40/news/original-ub40-lead-vocalists-to-reunite-after-six-years/ac/news/update/1.html

Four days ago it was breaking news, that lead vocalist Astro left UB40. Read Astro's statement and UB40's reply in THIS NEWS!
But today the next press release has been leaked and it announces an interesting reunion of three original UB40 members:

[Press Release 26th November 2013] Original UB40 lead vocalist Astro is to join UB40 founder and former frontman Ali Campbell in the pair’s first performance together in nearly six years.

Astro will join the line up for Ali Campbell’s December 6th concert at the O2’s IndigO2 [London], together with original UB40 keyboardist Mickey Virtue, who has been playing with Campbell since the pair left the band in February 2008.

Said Astro: "It's going to be great working with Ali again after all this time. We started on a mission to promote reggae music and that mission is still ongoing. Onwards and upwards!"

Added Ali Campbell: “We originally formed UB40 to promote reggae. It was never about promoting individual band members - it's about the music and the fans. Nothing else matters. Welcome home Astro!”

The news has arisen after Astro announced on Friday his split with the band that continued to play under the name of UB40 after Campbell and Virtue left. He issued a statement on Friday to explain his departure, pasted at the bottom of this release.

Addressing the split once more, Astro added: “I informed management and our agent several weeks ago that I would not perform until various outstanding issues were cleared up. I also advised them not to use my name or image in any tour publicity so as not to mislead fans. I now felt I needed to inform the fans myself, so they were fully aware and would not go to a concert in the hope of seeing me.”

That may well once have been the case (to promote reggae) but they have released too many duff records for anyone now to take them seriously.

To be fair is it any different than the Specials touring without two of their main members?
