It is not 1979 anymore I totally agree , I do not think it is fair to have a go at the band , its not for me but good luck to them I think people may be falling into goodie and baddie roles and viewing the band members almost as pantomime villains . As for the 79 thing I still wear and love my Fred Perry polos and a few other things but I do not have bands splashed all over them, Kirky I am not having a go here but on the 79 thing again I invite to check out your ride, I do not think the band are stuck back then as the things they have done in their lives indicate. Perhaps it is some of us on here who need to move on and leave the past behind, 30 year hero does not have the same impact.

my missis says i'm stuck in 1979 and to be honest i probably am Laughing Laughing Laughing i loved that time of my life with a passion,i still have the clothes,the tunes the hair cut (even though its now a slightly different colour lol) the boots and the memories...all i'm saying is i don't want the memories spoilt...its all up to the individual and seeing half of the band performing aint for me.... Crying or Very sad

Go...Don't go...No ones died. Lets see how it goes.

I understand that people feel strongly simply cos the band means far more to people than most outfits.

People still go see the other bands with lesser members. Madness have, at times, charged full whack with missing members in the past (not the same I know)
Yes ticket prices are lower and that's a factor and theres always Neville doing his own tribute to the band he left. Roddy wants to concentrate on his own thing and as did Neville. Go see them and give your support. Go see Jerry when hes back on the road. Show your support. Check out The Specials in November. Show your support.
I think the reviews will, undoubtedly, speak for themselves but as members leave of their own accord, is it right to ask the others to call it a day? New material is a must. They know that. People were happy to take The Specials Mk 2 in then 90s cos that's all we had. it certainly going to be an interesting chapter.

Completely agree - punter's choice. Personally loved 2009/2010 but that was enough for me, so have left the live shows alone since.

Judging by ticket sales, plenty of people still want to see what's left of the original line up, nobody's arm is being twisted, so good luck to all who still play and watch.

Regarding "legacy" - don't think its much of an issue, not many youngsters would be going to see the band anyway (aside from kids of original fans or the odd die-hard new skinhead). They made their mark 35 years ago - I don't think anyone watching them now is expecting them to change the world today, just a good night out which I'm sure it still is.
