Did anyone go the recent Specials gigs and if so what were they like. Strange to see no comments here and not much footage on youtube either. Cool

I agree with you it does seem strange it's not being mentioned on here.
On Facebook there was a mini vid of Lynval talking about the rain. Later on, Horace posted they'd played "a blinder" - the remaining members all seem to be getting on and pleased with how the shows went.

THE SPECIALS
KEW GARDENS 12/07/2015

The Specials have swapped the packed sweaty O2 academy’s for the picturesque, middle class, very humid and wet Kew Gardens. John Lewis are the concert sponsors, you can bring in chairs, food and alcohol, it’s a two-tone teddy bears picnic, and it works.
The Specials have brought Coventry’s weather with them tonight, rain, wind and clouds. Since the gates opened at 6pm we got all three, once the band took to the stage at 2045 the inclement weather disappeared and I could finally lose my £2 sky blue plastic bag poncho.
The Specials opt to open with ‘Ghost Town’, their biggest hit single. For most bands a number one is saved for the encore, such is the bands arsenal of songs it’s early introduction barely raises an eyebrow.
‘Do The Dog’, ‘Too Much To Young’, ‘Gangsters’, ‘Niteclub’, ’Rat Race’ and ’Monkey Man’ are greeted like long lost friends, sung word for word by the sold out crowd.
‘Little Bitch’ is dedicated to Amy Winehouse, and ‘Concrete Jungle’ to former guitarist Roddy Radiation, “Sung by an angel, written by a half wit” quips the sarcastic singer.
Terry Hall sombrely leads the band through a packed eighty minute set, no solos or drawn out end of song jams, just a rat-a-tat attack of hit after ska-infused hit. Thankfully he ignores the two beer filled containers thrown at the stage, there’s always one drunken twat stuck in 1977.
A strangely emotional ‘Your Wondering Now’ wraps the evening up and sends the soggy smiling crowd homeward bound.
Tonight The Specials delivered, Kew delivered, only the weather let us down.

Should Terry even be singing any of the songs written by Roddy or Jerry as he seems to spit personal remarks publicly whenever he can. Let it go Terry, to some you do not come across as being Special at times.

I thought that stab at Roddy was out of order?

Roddy is a great songwriter, guitarist, singer and nice guy Smile

Definitely no need for Terry to be saying that about Roddy. Some respect for original ex members please, even if that means saying nothing rather than saying something snipey

Gotta say the (four original) Specials nailed it at Kew, just as they did at the Roundhouse last year.

Only saw the YouTube coverage of the last couple of gigs and it looked and sounded great.

Agree that the public sniping at ex members is unnecessary and a bit fucking juvenile to be honest. Putting it down to Terry's quirky sense of humour.

There is a lot of love out there for Roddy, as there is for all the band members past and current. Wrong for Terry to sing the mans songs and then slag him off. Most fans don't know or care about the internal politics.

Agree Terry should keep his comments to himself, but a good singer ? Do you mean that Sugarman ? lm afraid I have always thought Roddy is an awful singer. Sorry.

It is what it is today and no wishing for more is going to make it as it was.

Rod n Neville left the band because they wanted to.
The others wanted to carry on. Their recent shows have had great reviews. Its The Specials circa 2015.

In the 90s, when it was Specials Mk2 who I thought were great anyway, people loved it cos that's what it was then and was far better than any "Special Beat".

Life is too short it really is. Go see them if you want to, don't go see them if you don't

Go out and support Roddy & The Skabillies n his n solo stuff where you can Buy his new fallen Angel CD- hes got his own sound and style and hes been wooing America and Staple is always gigging.

Go see Jerry Dammers DJ or occasionally his Spatial AKA.another great outfit- Theres plenty to do.

Band politics aren't our concern and facebook really hasn't helped anything. its like a giant gossipfest. People are far more interested in problems within than anything else, the music becomes secondary in every way

We are old becoming old farts anyway- Enjoy yourselves.

I like Roddy's style of singing basically because I like Rock and Roll and some Rockabilly Roddy's singing voice works well that that type of Music Smile

With Terry making such public statements I think it's only natural that fans should voice opions and concern about band politics.

Terry Hall is a first class frontman, perfect for the Specials, but at times he can be a grade 'A' tit.
