I can't really ad to the album introduction so all I can say is Thank You for this beautiful 2CD featuring many first time on cd titles and Unreleased songs from Island Records.

I can only think of two missing versions not included here, Dial Africa (Recorded Live At The Rainbow) and Afro-Dub (B-Side of Africa)

This LP has been released many times down the years but only released on CD in Japan and the U.S until now, The Japanese CD included 9 bonus tracks but nothing like this new 2CD set Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Sadly RICO is no longer with us but his music will live on forever.

R.I.P.

Originally released by island Records in 1976, ‘Man From Wareika’ established gifted Jamaican trombonist, Emmanuel ‘Rico’ Rodriguez as a major solo artist.

At the time of its release, Rico had been a mainstay of the British music scene for well over a decade, having plied his trade in the country since moving from Jamaica in 1962.

The popularity of the Island LP led to the company releasing its hugely collectable dub counterpart, ‘Wareika Dub’, along with a variety of 7” and 12” singles, all of which have since become prized collector’s items.

Soon after his spell with Island, Rico became a key part of the 2Tone sound and an honorary member of the Specials, while continuing his work as a key session player on the UK music scene.

In later years, he performed with Jool’s Holland’s band and by the time he sadly passed away in September 2015 at the age of 80, his was a much loved and widely respected member of the British musical establishment, whose contributions to the country’s music industry had been duly recognised with the award of an MBE.

This superb 40th anniversary 2CD collection finally brings together the widely acclaimed ‘Man From Wareika’ and ‘Wareika Dub’ albums, and is further musically enhanced with an array of rare and previously unreleased bonus tracks from the Island vaults, so ensuring that this is by some way the finest collection of the trombone maestro’s timeless works released to date.

Sugarman, I had not realised this 2 CD set was being released. I must get a copy.

However, I think you should have included the succinct description that the other amazon reviewer submitted, so I will correct that oversight of yours now:

Harry

I only found out about this reissue on Saturday I'm surprised it wasn't given better promotion, I can't wait to have a listen and read the liner notes later. Smile

About the Amazon review that was my review, the actual album description was posted by the record company I presume? I'm guessing you wrote "Top"? Wink

I'm still missing Africa 7" and Children Of Sanchez 12" but i will get those Some day.

Can't wait to hear digital copies of Take Five 12" and souncheck.

Enjoy the album Harry Smile

Sugarman - your review was meaningful.

No idea who reviewed it using one word - but they seem to have reviewed about 10 other releases on Amazon as being "Top"! Just thought it was quite funny.

Thanks Harry

I'm glad you thought my review was meaningful, the person who posted "Top" and giving the album 5 stars was just there way of liking the release though I can see where you are coming from Smile

I really miss RICO and I wasn't expecting anything new from him to be honest, so I was truly greatful when I heard about this release at the weekend.

Most reissues are just thrown together without any thought and bought out of Boredom by Die hard fans but Man From Wareika is very, very different, Jerry might even buy a copy Smile

Sugarman- love the idea of Jerry buying a copy of this cd.

Jools Hootenany does not seem the same without Rico in the background- always a bonus when he got to sing.

Last decent re-release cd for me was In The Studio - which then made me finally get round to buying the USA Nelson Mandela 12" so I could listen to the instrumental version on vinyl.

Harry

Wait until you see the Booklet with the Rico CD I still can't believe how good it is.

I agree about In The Studio, I was a little bit disappointed when I first saw the Tracklists for those 2014 Specials reissues but looking back now I'm glad they happened.

The Artwork is brilliant on all 3 cd's I know there isn't any new songs on The Specials albums but there is a few unreleased versions on The Special AKA - In The Studio which I really like, Nelson Mandela being one of them. Smile

It is a great cd. Bought it a while back. As Sugarman says, nice little booklet too.
