It's super cheesy looking back, but at the time to have an early evening show run by and for 'the yoof' was cutting edge.
Toyah Wilcox often presented Look Hear and used to constantly stick her tongue out straight into the camera which disgusted my parents |

Indeed. For anyone in any youth tribe back in 1980, the likes of 'Supersonic' and 'Get It Together really was the hip hop of its day. Even Crackerjack had its occasional cool moments.

Great old clip of Selecter by the way. I seem to remember them being on a show presented by Gary Crowley but I may be getting it mixed up with something else. _________________ Piano music page on Facebook:

Cheers for that, I'd never seen that performance of 'Girlfriend' before.
Yeah, could be Crackerjack, or even 'Cheggers Plays Pop' - jeez, even the title of that programme seems like a send-up now. _________________ Piano music page on Facebook:

Definitely Crackerjack. I can recall seeing it at the time of broadcast ( 'It's Friday. It's 5 to 5. It's Crackerjack!!!!). Even at the time I thought it was pretty bizarre. Not exactly a band suitable for children's TV. _________________ Richard Eddington is innocent.

Had I seen it back then, I'd probably have thought it a bit of a mismatch as well. The show was more suited to the likes of A-ha.
Though in some ways, that lack of format meant that if something was in the charts, it would have to be played. Even with daytime Radio 1, as cheesy as it was, for a long time you still got access to a fairly wide variety of music. At some point everything became very self-consciously 'hip', but at the same time, music started to sound very uniform. _________________ Piano music page on Facebook:
