Another great post! thank you Imani - George Benson's "On broadway" is a beautiful inspiration and Madness does reflect the song- in a really cool "Madness" way : )
The bad Manners and Tchaikovsky post - is also spot on.
I always manage to do the same thing with your links : ) that is - all open at once/accidentally play at once and my family think a medical emergency has happened to the aged me...... _________________ marigold |

Cheers Mary. Actually, playing them all at once might lead to some interesting musical fusions. Must try that.
I was thinking today of posting a few more on this thread, as there's many more! |

The organ throughout is also reminiscent of Time Is Tight by Booker T & The MGs, though I'm just pointing this out purely as a similarity. |

I enjoyed that Hammond organ vid. Wouldn't surprise me if Booker T influenced the early Hammond-based sound of early Selecter records. |

The key of each song is the same, without getting too musiciany about it, and it's spoken word, so I can see why you'll have heard a similarity.
I'd say that's the best track I've heard of the album, but let me scuttle over to the Encore thread to talk about it. |

I have always imagined Terry Hall's songs on a soundtrack - |
One from the new album seems to re-ignite Terry's old passion for songs about travelling in specific weather conditions.
This was very poorly done by me.

BTW I love the Specials track I'm suggesting might have been partially influenced by another song. _________________ a tale of woe: a yahoo group for fans of Terry Hall and all his work.

Definitely, that one. Weller (or his old friend, journalist Paolo Hewitt) even named them as an influence on his work back then.
I'm not sure he'd have got away with all this blatant borrowing in more recent times. Even though everyone does it. |

'Shadow of Fear' by Madness. Speculation around the song's title rather than the music, here. It MIGHT have come from either of two places. There's a couple of British films from 1955 and 1963 respectively that share the title. Then there's a 1970 series from ITV called Shadows of Fear, as another candidate:
'Shadows Of Fear was a suspense anthology series with a chilling Hitchcock-ian touch. Produced by Thames Television, it was broadcast between 17 June 1970 and 31 January 1973 on ITV. The programme featured a number of Britain's most renowned stage and television performers, including Sheila Hancock, Ronald Hines, Victor Maddern, Edward Fox, Annette Crosbie, Gemma Jones and George Cole. The unsettlingly creepy scripts were provided by Public Eye creator Roger Marshall.'
The theme tune is in that More Specials 'side 2' territory.
