- beautiful attitude and a faithful man.
It's a long journey and it sounds like Rankin Roger already knows to pace himself.
Thank you for posting Harry. _________________ marigold |

Jesus, he is not well man. It sounds like performing is his way of dealing with it. And good luck to him.
I didn’t know he had a book coming out. It should be an interesting read. _________________ Richard Eddington is innocent.

Was a real surprise to hear he'd become ill last year. Wishing him all the best. |

Someone just texted me with the news and its on wikipedia now too. Glad I got to the Roundhouse to see him with his Beat and The Selecter. He was the baby of The Beat. Too young. RIP. |

Nev Staple says on Facebook:
"So devastated to lose my super friend and my Special Beat partner, Ranking Roger!! We've been privately at his bedside, with him & his family, at every opportunity over the last couple of weeks, willing him the strength to recover again. Sadly the fight of the lion's fire has gone out.
Christine Sugary Staple, the whole band and I are so saddened and I will miss Turbo so much.
Rest up Turbo (personal name we had for each other, or Double Turbo when we performed together). One of a kind!" _________________ I got one art O'level it did nothing for me |

Absolutely shocking news... I saw the video posted above a month or two ago but never imagined Roger would pass away so soon after. RIP. _________________ http://www.2-tone.info |

- very sad news and I wish it wasn't true.
Ranking Roger always such a self effacing, tall and handsome man - just watching his dance moves and listening to him toasting always made the music "His".
https://thequietus.com/articles/09008-roger-ranking-dave-wakeling-the-beat-interview
“It was a great experience doing the show, meeting this whole range of stars but it brought about a change in my life I didn't like – being treated like royalty,” says Roger. “I insisted on carrying on getting the bus but a three minute journey turned into a half hour one with people wanting to say, 'Hello'. They'd send round a limo to pick my up at my place but I was conscious of my roots – I'd rather have a mate pick me up in his jeep. Because they're your true friends, the ones who knew you before it all happened. I saw people get mixed up in that pop hierarchy too quickly. I never wanted that. Now, I make a point of always having time for people. Don't panic and freak out like I did before – be approachable, show them you're a real person. Be prepared to deal with it.” _________________ marigold |

Shocking news. He and Brad always looked so fit and healthly. It just goes to show how delicate your health can be. _________________ Richard Eddington is innocent.

Horace says on Facebook:
"Saddened to hear that Ranking Roger has died. I worked with him from 1983 until 1991 in General Public, his solo album project, Radical Departure and 2 years in Specialbeat. He was great performer and always gave at least 100%........I'll miss him."
Louder than War magazine write:
"The charismatic singer was an ace face in the early punk scene and part of the Clash’s extended family before joining The Beat as toaster and was part of the ska band’s chart years when their clever and brilliant records subverted the punky reggae party and created a sound of their own in one of the most loved and brilliant periods of British pop music. Roger was the effervescent and energetic presence in the band and when they reformed he became the frontman. We knew him well and he was a beautiful soul and a real joy to be around and a great musical spirit. God rest your soul Roger."

Gutted
Saw him many times but even with the horrible illnesses he was fighting, still though I'd see him again zooming through his set with Roger Junior
I'd like to think that he will be in a better place now skanking with all the other greats that we have lost over the last few years
My wife will be in bits now as she cried watching his heart rendering video release a few months ago _________________ I don't like life when things get dull |

Just terrible sad news.
As with everyone else who met Roger I found him a friendly and down to earth fella with plenty of time to chat. As he was probably the youngest of the 2-Tone Musicians it really does feel like the man above has started taking them from our Gang now. |
