There was a bit in the London Evening Standard today about (deputy leader of Labour Party) Tom Watson finally getting his hands on rare the 2-Tone version of I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down. Watson bought it in Rat Records in Camberwell in South London. Rat Records is a good place for bargains.

I didn't know he was a record collector.

I'm not so sure about his source of info Wink See "According to Costello's manager" link on his blog.

I'm reading Unfaithful Music (again), EC's memoir. There's a lot to take in as it's such a big book (674 pages). Currently at the part where he's working night shifts as a computer operator and gigging, pre-record deal.

Great reviews for the Costello book!

With the spate of music/movies Bohemian Rhapsody - Elton John "Rocketman"Is Elvis Costello too young for one? I say Sam Rockwell for him....

I wouldn't want to see a film on him, to be honest. The other thing is, his life has probably been too skirmish-free by pop music standards to attract the attention of film moguls.

Biopics have definitely improved in recent years but with so much original archive footage available, even the best imitation will fall short.

Plus, they sometimes get things wrong - for 'dramatic purposes', the directors often say. (!) On a non-musical but related note, the film 'The Damned United' is meant to be a good film but the author was sued because it was factually incorrect. The Clough family have given it the thumbs-down. That's stopped me from watching the movie.

A good documentary, yes. I wouldn't go to see a film on EC.

Jumping from football back to music by word association: The Damned - Don't You Wish We Were Dead is an excellent biographical film.

Marigold - that pop history dig site is great. Thanks.

I really liked the Ali, Frazier, Sinatra piece. I have been watching What's My Name: Muhammed Ali on Sky. Best thing I have found on TV since I watched Chernobyl.
