I don't know anyone who hates The Jam.
The Style Council weren't perfect but there were some moments.

Weller wrote some great songs for the Style Council. They are very under rated. I hope they get their rightful recognition one day. l am a huge Jam fan, but listen to TSC just as much. Cafe Bleu and Our Favourite Shop are both very good albums. lm a bit of a Weller obsessive so maybe bias in my opinions though. _________________ The past is our knowledge, the present our mistake and the future we always leave too late. |

I love Our Favourite Shop. I think that's when the Style Council peaked.
I have a friend who plays sax on Paul Weller's new album. He said Weller was a really decent fellow and good company.
It's interesting how the Ocean Colour Scene chap plays guitars on Paul Weller's stuff and on The Specials Encore L.P _________________ I got one art O'level it did nothing for me |

He keeps himself busy Steve Cradock, as well as being a founder member of OCS, he has been a member of the Paul Weller Band since he went solo, and a member of The Specials for a few years now.
He's also done a few solo albums, a more recent album with The Songbook Collective and toured back end of last year with PP Arnold. He's done a few other collaborations too over the years.
I was a bit disappointed a couple of years ago when I went to a festival OCS were headlining, and Cradock's son had replaced him on guitar - as his dad was doing another gig with The Specials. In that same gig - the drummer (Oscar Harrison) had his son in the band too. I thought I was seeing the start of the next generation of OCS.
He also played for both OCS and The Specials on the same bill last year too, I seem to recall. _________________ Bernie Rhodes Knows - Dont Argue

Some fantastic songs/tunes, humour a little misunderstood and some clangers. I even like Modernism: A New Decade. _________________ One day they will know

Just finished the book Walls Come Tumbling Down by Daniel Rachel, a cracking read. It's a talking heads book with interviews with the main players of Rock Against Racism, 2 Tone, Red Wedge and Artists Against Apartheid. The Red Wedge section talks a lot to and about Weller and The Style Council. He became much more politically active in The Style Council than he was in The Jam. _________________ http://www.2-tone.info |
