Listened to Grey Day recently. I know they've cited Roxy Music's 'Bogus Man' as the primary inspiration though I also heard a bit of a Pink Floyd similarity in the bridge 'In the park I have to rest...without a trace'. Without being a 'lift', the vocals and melody reminded me very much of early Pink Floyd.

I have to confess I have tried my best to get through life without listening to Pink Floyd.

But I love Grey Day, and especially the extended version. It's a pity they did not do a few more dub versions of songs.

I am with you there about Pink Floyd. What the hell were they all about? When you see an album with five tracks on it ( Animals) you just know it's just going to be a load of self indulging shite.

Grey Day is one of the best singles by Madness. Seriously dark lyrics too.

As most know, Baggy Trousers was a riposte to Another Brick In The Wall. But then 'In The Middle Of The Night' is surely a nod to Arnold Layne. So the influence is there even in their more ska-based phase.

Tastes vary, of course. Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain from the late 1950s both contain five tracks apiece. Yet both have enjoyed a very broad, ongoing appeal unknown to most popular three-minutes or less pop songs of the post-ww2 years.

Kind of Blue? Jesus, don't get me started about fucking jazz. Twisted Evil

Jazz = why use one note when nine will do?

I always thought by listening to a lot of Pink Floyd - you are running the risk of having your head fucked up.
I had a friend in school who was very happy go lucky and really into Ska, after leaving school, I didn't see him for a few years until he started working at the same place as me. He said he was into Pink Floyd now, and over the next few months started telling us about alien beings and all sorts of other claptrap and was rather fervent with his radical views, and got pretty angry when we mocked some of the shite he was coming out with. His happy go lucky nature had gone.
I put this massive change in him down to listening to too much Pink Floyd,

I now see that Imani has been listening to Pink Floyd and this strengthens my view that listening to Pink Floyd - fucks your head right up.

Coldplay = musical beige.

They are a fine example of bore-core.

I quite liked some of Coldplays earlier material and went to see them in the noughties, but their music has passed me by since the X&Y album and that was about 15 years ago now.

I'll put my coat on...
