The Chris Murray Combo doesn't have horns.
And who's gonna argue with that??

You should see some of the bands here in the US that try to pass themselves off as ska bands simply because they have a horn section.

Maybe it's my age, but I don't hear any horns on Gangsters; a lot of Roddy though. If he brought a band to Vancouver, fuck that place would be packed. I don't know how H would deal with those screaming women though.

not the greatest example.... big d seems to show a big understanding of ska on quite a few songs... just because they play their ska fast doesn't mean it isn't ska... bands like reel big fish, less than jake, and suburban legends are bands with horns that try and pass themselves off as ska bands... but even they have had some good tunes in their older days... but big d is definitely one of the more ska bands of today... as far as the ska-punk genre is concerned

Ok so no horns, but just a good sound. That's all that matters in the final count, isn't it?

I'm sure if you invited Roddy & co over to do a a gig & stay at your house they'd jump at the chance, although H only requires a nice flat table outside... Laughing

What I actually require is hotel rooms that aint Non Smoking or I may be forced to sleep rough in protest. Also, if I go late night drinking in Berlin with ska bands from Hamburg (complete with horn section I might add). I should take someone with me who can work a swipe card when pissed.

I like the band and have seen them live a few times. Their debut single "You're Not The Law" is very influenced by The Specials "Ghost Town". While their follow up single "Riot Radio" sounds more like The Clash. Still, it's good to hear music like this back in the top 40 and I can't wait to hear The Dead 60s album which is due out early next year.
