I was talking to our (Simmertones) sax player Ray Beavis about the Allstars at a gig last week. I'd been watching clips of their gig on the Tube and a few other clips online and wondered why they never got a lot bigger or well known. Ray was a member of Graham Parker's The Rumour horn section and they played on loads of sessions, including the recordings and gigs with JBAs. He said it was a great band (obvious now looking back at the clips) but it just kind of fizzled out which was a shame.

Great clip, used to have this on VHS as well. It must have been a logistical nightmare to get all these musicians together to REHEARSE, never mind gig. But there were a number of big bands around at that time.

I collected all the J.B's vinyl through the years, It's a shame they didn't stay around long enough to record an album?

their B-Sides are also very interesting, the last single Alphabet Army released on 2 Tone was opening all kinds of new doors for the 2 Tone label but sadly it wasn't to be for the J.B's or 2 Tone records Sad

Did J.B release records or play live in the 90s?
I have a CD of Special Beat Service live.

Here's some information about an unreleased 1984 recording, now available to buy on iTunes Smile

1: Sound Effectian (Dub)

Composed for a cartoon series (which never even made it to the storyboard stage) about a super crime-fighting organisation from the future who use sonic rays to defeat the baddies. Now then, that’s as may be, but when it comes to; rock solid, locked in, on the money, bang on beat drumming... in the history of British pop music, there’s none finer than John Bradbury (Brad from The Specials). I was the bass player in his “bit on the side” crew: The JB Allstars (clips available on YouTube, vinyl available on eBay). This is just him and me, recorded in Larry Wallis’s Dads 8track studio in 1984. And I would contest, on the grounds that there’s no question about it, it’s the most creditable Punk Dub release ever?
