Post subject: 3 books on the specials Reply with quote

not being a completist i am all read out on the subject of the specials now, having read nevs, willos and horaces books.
they are very different. Horace's being a study of a musician in a band, pauls being an external point of view and nevs being a ghost written autobiography.
i couldnt choose between them in terms of how much i liked them, pauls informed me the most as a specials fan and obviously i'm one too so to have the story told from a non personal perspective helped was great as well as being a good read. Horace, well i can identify with his position as a quite straight middle class guy that things happened to and he's a very good writer. and nev well, all the bands ive ever been in ive also been 'the entertainer' rather than the musician, so i associated with a lot of what he said about performance etc as well as being hugely entertained by his enormous propensity for well, nevving and generally being a rude boy, what iliked most about him was his loyalty!
With the tour this year i think by the end of it i may be sated in my thirst for all things special.
and in a way i just want to thank the admins and everyone on here as well as all the band for making the reunion and my wallow in my own past so enjoyable. not that i'm going anywhere, just i'm running out of stuff to say a bit about the band anyway...and thought i'd post this while i was thinking about it

Willo, would you ever consider writing a book/putting a book together which just concentrates on the live performances of The Specials? Having a full tour history (i.e. following on from the dates in your book) but including set-lists (where known) and photos from the shows. I appreciate getting set-lists from the early days would be difficult, but set-lists of the reunion tour would be far easier. Would make a great point of reference compiled into a book. Just a thought.

Dan, that was a great post and I bet expresses the feelings of a lot of Forum members.

I hope someone has kept the old threads because when I read yours, Shans, Bombscares, Fester/Geoff/Steve/StevieB/Badger/Stevo/ Tank/DRD67/Paul/Tom/Patrik/Geoff/Marc/Hugh - too many to mention - I am grinning for hours and I think these would make a great "Bridget Jones Diary" stream of consciousness novel!

When I think of Bombscares recent post "Wankers - I bought large (Polo shirt) and I havn't been able to breathe out in a month! now with XXL every Grandma will be wearing one" - I just keep laughing.

I joined really late in the day and I always hope that the members on here realise that gently guided by Willo, Shan and Mike- there is a tremendous amount of goodwill and good feeling on this Forum.

I look at the wonderful photo's posted here and see we are all getting older together and that's really nice.

I'm curious as to why you want the set lists.

i think this is a great read and one of the best post for ages i am kinnda all out of things to say. i sometimes dont drop in for a few days where as previously i would be here at every opportunity - I have no intention of leaving but some of the threads of late dont ibspire to respond as often as i used to.

maybe things will heat up a bit during the summer Smile

The set lists hugh? As a point of reference so it is known exactly what was played. I always like to know who the support was and all that sort of stuff as well.
