In terms of what it will sound like, the samples thus far tell you nothing of what it will sound like as it's all mashed up. I would like to hear more Madness tunes slowed down. It's only when you hear My Girl live with the slow intro that you realise how nice a melody it is. Absolutely beautiful piano and any time I hear it, I always say I'd love to hear My Girl slowed down from start to finish. At its crazy pace, the brilliance of the melody gets lost. You could say that about quite a few Madness numbers. Playing music at 100 miles an hour tends to make a tune unappreciated sometimes I think. Our House is another example of this. The melancholy of the song gets lost in the version we all know and love. |
My Girl has already been slowed down. The Flexipop single was a more relaxed version. That in itself is quite rare, but I think it was on The Business box-set (without googling or digging it out I can't truthfully remember), and if it wasn't it's definitely on the remastered 2CD One Step Beyond. |

Gemini says: Who is the best ska band around now?
Suggs says: Madness.

Yeah that was the original version, off the Los Palmas 7 12", with Mike Barson Singing (billed as "The Prince" on vocals) its a nice version too. _________________ Forget what Huey Lewis told you, its NEVER Hip to be Square. |

The version the-ska-night is referring to is 'My Girl (Ballad)' which was a free flexidisc with Flexipop magazine and has since been reissued on the 'One Step Beyond...' 2cd set. It has a Suggs vocal. _________________ www.timetunnellondon.blogspot.com

And re the "My Girl" ballad, and the Peel Seasion "Bed and Breakfast Man" the appyammer posted - if anyone wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone, they're both on the 2cd One Step Beyond. All of those Madness remasters are essential, but that's probably the best one of all! |

It's like a new song with old lyrics I can't relate Le Grand Pantalon (Baggy Trousers) with the original in any way. which is a good thing I suppose _________________ I'm having bags of fun |

It's definitely a world away from the song that was the talk of my whole school when it was in the charts |
