NME.COM First For Music News

First for music news

Madness are set to unveil their 10th studio album in its entirety during their 'House Of Fun' weekender later this month.

The band, who have not revealed what the album will be titled as yet, will play the record from start to finish at the event, which takes place at Butlins, Minehead from November 25 – 27.

The album, which is the follow-up to the band's 2009 record 'The Liberty Of Norton Folgate', is not actually finished yet, but the band have decided to debut it live in any case. They followed a similar pattern in the build-up to the release of their last LP 'The Liberty Of Norton Folgate', which they performed at London's Hackney Empire a full year before its release.

I must admit the derision some people show towards Madness amazes me. Top quality entertainment for 30 years , a constantly evolving show that always includes new material. It seems they get stick for still playing one step beyond but I wonder how anyone Would feel if the Specials didn't include Gangsters in any live show they performed !

Chefs trousers compulsory.

Fully agree with you stew, it's one of them things that makes me embarrassed about the whole scene.

People assume that you wear glittery suits and fez's, just sort of kills all integrity of what used to be a sharp scene, cutting edge and cool as fuck.

I'm with Stew and Graham on this.

Madness sit right up there next to The Specials in my heart.

LONF is brilliant and shows Madness have the chops to have a 30 career of real worth and talent.

Butlins is for the washed up and left for dead.

That line up is SHITE as well. Loads of DJs!

I'll stay home and wash me hair, methinks.

Cool Madness are right up there with The Specials IMHO
AND have kept it real all these years. However, Butlins
wouldn,t be for me.. Hopefully Madness will do a proper
tour to promote this new offering from The Nutty Boys.

Washed up and left for DEAD!! Oh No!!! I've never been to Butlins before, not even near one in fact, Im having second thoughts about it now, I presumed it would have a good true Madness fanbase attending, with it being the only Madness winter gig and as its a weekender, a bit like the Badfest weekends that were great fun! I hope the *145 a ticket puts off the fat thick types that Stew mentioned (Hey Stew I was the one that said a quick hello to you at the end of the Specials Glasgow SEC gig). As for the plastic pork pie & fezes, they have been around since the first Madstcock return, guess it doesn't help when there are stalls selling them at the gigs! I've only ever worn a Fez ONCE whilst playing Night boat to Cairo on sax with my band, new years eve 1999..

I also agree with Nanker the line up is not what I expected, I booked months ago before lineup was sorted. The first Madstocks seemed to have great line ups! At least I can look forward to hearing the new songs! And Jerry Dammers on the decks later! If it gets Skanky rather than skanking I will retreat to the back and watch the mess unfold ha ha! Rolling Eyes Laughing

Hey Sugsnutty, dont be put off by the one eyed Specials brigade as I'm sure you'll have a great weekend and Madness are playing over 2 nights so you'll get the new and old material - what could be better. They played Tamworth festival this year which wasn't what you'd call their type of thing but bought the place down so I'm sure it will be a great weekend - keep stomping !!! Laughing

I sometimes take my kids to Pontins for a weekend which is a good laugh, so i'm sure seeing Madness play live twice will make it a great weekend. Cool

There were plenty of plastic pork pie wearers at the Ricoh arena too Stewert. At least Madness are out there making new albums.
