I've noticed the Wha'ppen? reissue has been removed from a lot of the HMV stores because of the faulty bonus stuff

With thanks to Fester for suggesting myus.com, I was able to get the Complete Beat from Shout Factory with the signed booklet and Live CD/DVD.

Very Nice Indeed, I know the UK issues have more tracks but I like the idea of having bonus tracks on each studio album and I like having the John Peel Sessions and 12" Versions on separate discs. their are a few live tracks recorded live in Boston not on any of the UK releases. looking forward to the Live DVD soon Smile

David Steele had just started recording with his new group at the time "Fried" this could be one of the reasons why he didn't want to rejoin The Beat ?

after Dave Wakeling returned to the states Ranking Roger dropped The New Beat to simply The Beat and Mr. Wakeling wasn't very happy when he found out Shocked they haven't spoken to each other since Crying or Very sad

Peace, Love and Unity ?

15/08/88

Ranking Roger: 'In Love With You (LP-Radical Departure)' (I.R.S.)

(JP: 'I've never forgotten really the first time that I saw the Beat, at Aston University, one of the very best gigs ever. I invited them at the time to play their set through twice, and they did this, and both times it was wonderful. Just thinking about it sets me toes tapping.') Smile

John Peel also played a track from Ranking Rogers 2nd solo album Inside My Head (2001) where else would you have heard these tracks played ?

I heard about Ranking Rogers 1st album on John Peel 1988 and the 2nd through the Internet 2001

As far as I know their wasn't any singles released from the Inside My Head album, I did see a 1 track promo years ago but I didn't buy it. I have most of the albums you mentioned I'm just missing cribabi's volume but I have heard tracks from it.

David Blockhead formed a band called Two Nations after The Beat they released one album, Both Sides (Vinyl Only) and a few singles in the late 1980s It's not great but worth tracking down for the 2 Tone connection if nothing else Smile

I've been collecting the 2 Tone related stuff for years I never got into 3rd wave Ska so I had to collect something and if it had a 2 Tone connection I automatically bought it and in most cases I liked it but I did overindulge in Terry Hall collecting but that's another story Smile

Two nations completely passed me by. Been looking online and they seem to have released five singles, all from the lp - I have just ordered the lp for now.

The cribabi cd is available from estocks on ebay for 2.98. It is an enhanced cd with photos and video clips. Has a quote from q magazine saying "cribabi's future is assured" - which obviously was not the case. Only listened to it once so far and toronto globe and mail quote is closer to the mark with "ethereal pop".

Still working on my terry hall collection. Really pleased to track down no, no, no promo single a while back. Also picked up a couple of lightning seeds cds in one of those pound shop places.

No Liam The album wasn't released in the UK, I had to get a friend to order me a copy On-Line because I didn't have a computer at that time (2001) Andy Cox plays on one of the tracks Smile

The album also features Ranking Junior. some of the tracks get played live by The Beat from time to time.

I always thought one or two tracks on Special Beat Service (I Confess and End Of The Party) reminded me of the Sheffield band ABC, songs such as The Look of Love and All Of My Heart.

Especially 'I Confess'. It's more soul-influenced with a bigger production, and Dave Wakeling sings it in a way that I could imagine Martin Fry doing in a similar way.
