I'm surprised they didn't play anything from the new album (Subculture) released next month? Secret Love is taken from the album (String Theory 2013) they should have played two songs something old and something new? Smile

Good for them that Lilly Savage man is so encouraging and supportive.
But I couldn't help feeling a bit embarrassed by it all. They just don't seem to have any edge. It all seems so tame and pointless. Sorry.

Is Paul O'Grady really a big Selecter fan, or is he just a fan of whoever's on this week?

Received my signed copy of Subculture today, on my second listen now, would say the album is alright, without being spectacular.

I've heard him say he loved 2 Tone before and remember when interviewing Madness, he mentioned a particular gig or two of theirs he'd gone to back in the very early days. Unlike Chris Evans who goes overboard in championing Madness every time they're on his show and in the next sentence says he has never seen them live

Yeah, you've summed it up. Venturing into 'ska by numbers' territory

I was glad to see The Selecter on TV again but I wasn't very happy with the chosen song, they should have played On My Radio or Box Fresh from the new album? Smile

Secret Love is a good album track and goes down well at live shows but It just didn't seem to work on the Paul O'Grady show?

I read on Rhoda's facebook page that the "Subculture" LP is 29 in the album charts.
I'm glad that touring up and down the country, special guesting with Jools Holland's orchestra and going on Paul O Grady show and all their other hard work has paid off.

Well done.

Cool

Yes it is currently no 29 in the midweek chart update:

http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/albums-chart-update/

I don't think the album is that good on first impressions, but still nice to see it reaching a very respectable position in the charts in this day and age, will be interesting to see what position it settles at come the end of the week chart.

Well done to The Selecter for putting in all the effort to promote it

I played the album again today, and it does appear to be growing on me, 'Open Goal' wouldn't of been out of place if it had appeared on Celebrate The Bullet all them years ago Very Happy

I pre-ordered the vinyl from tmstores and got rather annoyed with all the photos on facebook of delivered stock, while I patiently waited for my copy to arrive. I checked the website on Thursday to find the transaction had failed, but no signed vinyl left. Discovered tonight that banquet records have a few signed copies for sale so thankfully have it ordered now.

Tomorrow night from 20:00, after Top of the Pops 1980 Smile

The NEW Vintage TV Sessions airs on Thursday 25th June at 8pm!

Jenny Eclair interviews a fantastic line-up of talented musicians, including Pauline Black and Arthur 'Gaps' Hendrickson of The Selecter. Creating 2-Tone, Ska, Reggae and Soul, The Selecter originally formed in 1979. Having reformed in 1991, they are now looking forward to releasing their new album ‘Sub-Culture’ on 15th June this year!

Steve Balsamo and Rosalie Deighton of Balsamo Deighton, will take to the stage to perform tracks from their much-anticipated debut album, set to be released later this year, including the beautiful ‘The Ghost Of Me And You’.

Roland Gift of Birmingham trio Fine Young Cannibals celebrates his new album 'Rough Old Vegetarians' with a performance on our Vintage TV Sessions. Fine Young Cannibals were one of the biggest bands of the late 80s, and scored a number one album with 1989's 'The Raw & The Cooked', which included the hit singles 'She Drives Me Crazy' and 'Good Thing'.
