I love The Kinks. In my opinion their best work is as good as The Beatles/Stones/Velvets/Blockheads/Specials.
The new article in Q featuring Terry, Horace and Lynval made me depressed as it was full of nastiness.
The picture of an elderly Ray and Dave Davies working together made me laugh. I'm glad they're getting on again.

I know what you mean by the Q interview:

Here's a few lines from it.

Staple departed in December 2012. “I like Neville a lot but
he couldn’t physically do it,” Hall says, diplomatically eliding the
details. “He collapsed onstage three times for whatever reason.
I understand why he had to dip out and get his act together.”
He has no such warm words for Byers. “He didn’t like us and we
didn’t particularly like him. The weird thing was he would say things
on the internet, thinking that we wouldn’t read it. Hello, we’ve got
the internet too. Be a man: if you hate this band so much, leave.” One
night in Birmingham in 2014, Hall snapped and lunged for Byers, who
hid in a toilet while the rest of the band held the singer back. The
guitarist is not missed. “Thoughtless little kid,” sniffs Panter. “I think
you can be stupid when you’re young but being stupid when you’re
old is really unforgivable.” (Byers, Staple and Dammers have all
publicly accused Hall of forcing them out, which Hall wearily denies.
Like Panter said, everybody has his own story.)

Their comments about songwriting credits are depressing.
Terry chipped in one line ("the girls are slags") to Nite Klub yet he gets the same amount in songwriting royalties as Jerry.
I'm pretty sure Roddy wrote, 'Concrete Jungle' and Jerry wrote 'Little Bitch' before they met the other Specials so why should they be attacked for being phoney socialists?
Terry left the specials because he resented the way Jerry would write music for Friday Night Saturday Morning that included other instruments (he wanted it to be just him and piano) - Jerry did loads of work arranging it but the song is credited to Terry alone.
Terry sacked Lynval and Nev from the Fun Boy 3 and slagged them off in the press many times for not contributing enough. Now we're supposed to believe they didn't write the hits of the Fun Boy 3 but they did write the hits of The Specials.
If you read any interview with Terry in the 80s he always says he was unhappy but now he's happy. It's all a load of bollocks.
I liked the interview Terry gave with Richard Herring. It's funny when he talks about working as a hairdresser and things like but there are no laughs to be had reading that Q interview

Shangri La by The Kinks is a song I like a lot. Listening to it is like watching some late 1960s film on English life.

I remember this as a kid from the tv drama Budgie. I didn't know it was them until a few years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTSB2b-nFKY

Nice to see they've put their feud behind them.

Just wind the band up. Its not the Specials now. Its almost another Fun Boy 3(thats all thats left anyway). I get the feeling Terry can be a hard man to get along with. And if you dont see eye to eye with him you will soon be in the wrong somewhere. It will never be The Specials without Jerry, and can never be again anyway without Brad, so finish it whilst it still has a bit of credibility about it.

On Facebook there's a nice video clip of Madness doing the rounds. You see them walking around town talking about their "Past, Present and Future" tour. It's been a while since they did new material I thought was amazing but they seem to be getting by ok with most of the line-up present and correct.

I'll check out the Madness clip. Keeping this in Kinks context, Madness have been influenced by them quite a bit, to put it mildly.

I think I'll avoid that Q Magazine interview.

The animosity between current and ex Band Members is becoming more and more pronounced as the years go by. As he gets older Terry reminds me more and more of Roy Keane. Laughing

Funnily enough, I heard that Terry was ready to walk out recently - when he saw the rest of the band sat round eating pizza before a gig

Roy Keane ! Now theres a man that cannot be mentioned around where l live. Managed the football club l support a few years back. Totally ballsed it up. Has set us back 10 years. Not sure Terry is quite there yet. At least Terry could get into the county, not sure Keane would be welcome.

This is a great watch and not just for footy fans.

Roy has not mellowed with age.

Some harsh words in that Guardian interview. How long before the three of them fallout among themselves?

The Guardian piece was 7 months ago. The Q one is just out now.

Neither of which paint a encouraging image of the personalities involved.

I've bought Q, but haven't summoned up the energy to read it yet. When I was growing up, in my mind the Specials were all about unity, as time goes on you realise that was probably me being very naive and simplifying the band far too much... The bitterness is so sad, I dont suppose any of us understand thre dynamics, I thought the loss of Brad might have got the guys to set their differences aside - life is too short - but sadly not.... Your Wondering Now.....
