It reminds me of quite a few, to be honest, though I know the one you're referring to.

The more you look at the history of popular music, the more you realise that great bands, like great football teams for that matter, aren't always made up of bosom buddies. This is even before they've got to the stage of reunions.

I've watched a couple of those Bands Reunited shows and to say they're uncomfortable viewing is to put it mildly.

I'd actually like to see that play.

Unfortunately nowadays when i see the word 'toxic' i automatically think of the tory/brexit party, their members and supporters and none of the rest of the message can be taken on board. So it reminds me of a band called the tories.

Sam and Dave. Simon and Garfunkel. The Police. There are loads of groups that didn't get along and have had toxic relationships, Specials are far from unique there. Even very close-knit ones such as UB40 and Spandau Ballet have been through really difficult times in their internal relationships.

People might point the finger a bit more harshly at The Specials because their message has always been about getting on with each other. Political parties also have that as their message but behind the public front, there's all kinds of personality clashes and backbiting going on behind the scenes.

All this can come as a surprise when you see the groups on stage enjoying the music and their chemistry. It just goes with the territory, and not only music. The two guys who played Steptoe and Son couldn't stand each other yet look at the work they produced. Same with some members of the Carry On team.

If you're having problems with someone in your day job, you can always come home! Lots of bands didn't really have that option and had to spend virtually all day with each other, under pressurised conditions (constant touring, writing, recording etc). I used to hear about all these different groups that wouldn't travel with each other, stay in separate hotels and think, 'How sad.' Now I'm realising that's probably the best way for a lot of bands, keeping the work separate.
