News from the NME....
Madness take barbed swipe at Boris Johnson on first new song in three years
"The Eton Boys are undefiled/ The Bullingdon Boys, running wild"

https://www.nme.com/news/music/madness-barbed-swipe-boris-johnson-new-song-2582129?fbclid=IwAR3GjMigsG_oudUkx5rKvUq_7YlaGcwwvjck90c-2UGXGxUa632vUL8PrsQ

It sounds more like an album track than a single to my ears but it's not bad!

I can't knock the sentiment of the lyrics, but the song is piss poor. Conveyor belt Madness.

"Conveyor Belt Madness" is quite poetic. Maybe Boris Johnson should use it as a title and write a song about the decline and fall of Suggs?

If Boris thought there would be votes to gain from it he would.

Jesus, that's dreadful. It's like a cheap imitation Madness, and the video is ridiculous... What the fuck are they thinking...

It's not bad, actually. I like the bass playing. As a song it's not their most catchy and it sounds like a mixture of a few previous songs, without being as memorable.

Can't agree with you Imani, but I respect your generosity to them. For me their last great album was The Rise & Fall and their last great single, Michael Caine. They'll always be my first love and will always hold a special place, but they just sound like a pale imitation of what they once were to me now, and this Boris song makes me think that even more...

What did you think of The Liberty album? I'd say it's their best along with One Step Beyond. Rise & Fall was also a great album, and for me a lot of what they did on The Liberty sounds like what they were aiming towards on Rise and Fall.

I never gave Liberty a fair listen to be honest. It didn't really grab me when I did listen to it when it was released, but I'll give it another go.

Liberty is one of those albums where you have to listen to the whole thing rather than individual tracks, a bit like Sergeant Pepper or Doolittle by The Pixies.

Certainly I'd say Liberty is better than Wonderful.

It has that freshness about it which you don't often hear in a band that's been around as long as they have. Maybe not having to be stuck in constant touring and releases of material helped.

Wonderful started of ...well wonderful, then after Drip Fed Fred it fell on its arse.

It's not a popular choice but rate 7 as my favourite Madness album.

I like to think there's still a few good singles left in Madness. I like half of Wonderful

Absolutely is another album I like. Bearing in mind that album is nearly 40 years old!

Financially they probably don't need to do anything new, and it's not as though 'records' sell these days. But going by all the new music they've put out whether it goes down well or not, I'm guessing they recognise that they have to keep it interesting for themselves, rather than purely going out as a greatest hits nostalgia show.

Absolutely is my favorite Madness album. Think there will be new material later this year. Since they reformed Liberty has been their best output. Its a very under rated album.

I would probably go along with Absolutely being my favourite Madness album, although Return Of The Los Palmas 7 is probably my least favourite Madness single ever.
Tracks like Close Escape, Not Home Today, On The Beat Pete, Shadow of Fear, Disappear, Overdone, In the Rain and You said really make it an album I always enjoy listening to and I think some of those songs have really good intro's- along with one of my favourite Madness singles Embarrassment.

Always like the intro of Take It Or Leave It, has a bit of mystery to it. And Disappear. I was reading a youtube comment saying that the main tune of Disappear is based on 'I Want You Back' by Jackson Five, and it actually is...slowed down.

Funny you should mention your favorite Madness album also contains your least favorite Madness single. I feel the same about 7 and the single 'Shut Up'. I hated Shut Up at the time and have so ever since.

My least favorite Madness single has to be Sweetest girl. Hated it the minute l heard it,but then, l never liked the original. Still hate it today, always skip past it. One of my favorite singles has to be One better day. Love that track, always have.

Totally agree. Never liked anything about Sweetest Girl from the song to the video.

But even though Michael Caine at 11 and One Better Day at 17 marked the start of their exit from the Top 10, and things only got worse chart wise from then, those were both great songs, that I still listen to today.
