I don't doubt he is a great song writer, but a Nobel prize for literature?

I have heard quite a bit of his stuff, but I am proud of the fact that I don't own single Dylan record.

I had a look at other people who'd won the Nobel prize for literature - most of them I'd never heard of. But Harold Pinter, Seamus Heaney and Kazuo Ishiguro were all on that list and I'm sure they'd see Dylan as an equal.
Kazuo Ishiguro wrote, Remains of the Day which is one of my favourite books.
He wrote it when he was 32 in just 4 weeks. He and his wife had just moved to a place near Lewisham in south London called Sydenham. The butler character in his novel was slightly based on Gene Hackman's character in a really good film called, The Conversation. Ishiguro heard a song by Tom Waits called Ruby's Arms which was a soldier who gets his heart broken. It gave him the idea to make the story about a butler who would slowly fall apart.
I remember when Dylan got the award his friend Leonard Cohen said something like... that's as pointless as tying a medal round a mountain
