Stewart Lee discusses the programmes Children of the Stones & The Changes, and compares them with more recent viewing fare for teenagers.

I've a distant memory of The Changes though I recently watched it again. Feels very apt in mood to the present, and it's aged well. Great use of music in it, BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

I agree with Stewart Lee's comments.
I saw Children of the Stones a few years back and liked it. I like some Dr Who and Blake's 7 stuff and I'm a fan of the 1975 TV series Survivors.

It's curious how apt Survivors is, some of Blake's 7 (where Blake has to fight false allegations of sexual abuse) are also very timely and, like you say, the BBC used to have great music then

Yes, Stewart Lee makes a good point. Another reason for the difference is, I think Skins seems more like a product of modern popular youth culture, whereas the programmes aimed at children in an earlier era didn't really reflect their time, the music, fashions etc.

Children Of The Stones is next on my list to watch. I probably saw most of those programmes first time round but with the exception of Dr Who, the plots went right over my head, and it's the Doctor that's stuck most in mind. The Pertwee era is my favourite.

I never got to see anything more than the first ten minutes of Blake's 7; unfortunately for me, Coronation Street was king in our house.
